San Diego Whale Watching

San Diego sports some of the best ever whale watching. We had an incredible day off shore for very little money. I thought it would be so much more. The boat had snacks available and liquor too if you wanted it. At only $25 we were in for a lifetime treat. We actually saw a mother and her calf and followed them for over an hour.

We had a scientist from Script on board who shared that she had never seen a calf surface five times before. The Script scientist was from the local Oceanographic Institute, she narrated the entire time we were out on the boat. The narration included what breaching was, whale footprints and how they migrate. I would be sure to only do the watching on a boat that had a representative from the institute on board, her talk was very interesting to us not being from the area.

The weather was wonderful and the boat ride in and out a treat. We saw otters, sea lions and whales, what more could you possibly ask for in one day. The two lighthouses that were pointed out were beautiful. The boat captain was great getting us in for pictures of wildlife and the shore when asked. Be sure to bring along a good camera, they guarantee you will see a whale. We went in the late spring and were surprised at how cool it was, a light jacket would have been welcomed. Afterwords we walked along the pier area and sampled local foods.

This is a trip I will treasure always.
