Canyon Lake Texas Getaway

Canyon Lake sits somewhere between San Marcos and New Braunfels and is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. We went in September and the weather was warm and mild, perfect T-shirt weather. Although it was sunny for the better part of our trip, even when it rained, the rain was a refreshing kind, that smelled of sweet mountain air due to all the huge hills in the area.

We stayed in the Hill Country Resort, and the property that belonged to the resort was huge in itself. Several days we were able to drive down close to the lake and park the car and sit and watch whole families of deer cross the street, so close you could almost reach out and touch them. The fishing was also fantastic. And there was a little restaurant just up the road, I believe it was called Roy's, that served steak house type food, but had some incredible breakfasts at reasonable prices.

Several great tourist attractions were within an hour or less drive time as well, such as The Alamo, The Riverwalk, Schlitterbahn, and the tiny town of Wimberley, which is known worldwide for its amazing glass blowing company. We got to watch a glass blowing demonstration which was truly awesome.

It was probably, all in all, the best vacation my husband and I ever took.
