Newport RI Travel

For those living on the East Coast or International Travelers looking for a Weekend Break or New England Romantic Getaway driving to Newport is easy.

Here are some approximate drive times for Newport RI Travel:

• Boston MA - 1 hour
• Hartford CT - 2 hours
• Portland ME - 1 1/2 hours
• Manchester NH - 2 1/2 hours
• New York NY - 3 1/2 hours

Those wanting to travel by train to Providence RI, can then transfer to a RIPTA (Rhode Island Public Transportation Authority) bus to Newport.

Flying into Providence Airport (PVD), a bus will take you to Providence and then transfer to Newport.

There is also a direct limo from PVD airport with COZY CAB (Phone: 401-846-2500). They run hourly to/from Newport.

Once you arrive in Newport, there is the Newport Trolley which runs from the Visitor's Center through downtown and along Bellevue Drive where the Mansions are located.

There is also all day RIPTA passes to check out. Also, Newport is a great place for walking.

In my view, the preferable option for your Newport Rhode Island Vacation is to rent a car at PVD.

This is especially recommended for weekend getaways because it will save time and allow you to see more. It is just a 35 minute easy drive from the airport.

Be warned, though that parking on the narrow streets is difficult and it can be hard to find spaces on the busy weekends or in summer.

Take this into consideration once you arrive in Newport and maybe park and walk or use the Newport Trolley.

One other option is to fly into Boston Logan Airport (BOS) which is about 1 to 1 1/2 hours from Newport (depending on traffic could be more).

I have done this - make sure and avoid rush hour times....driving in Boston can be quite an experience!
